Cruce Frontera (Border Crossing)
2006. Done at the Corozal border with Laboratorio Curatorial 060, Chiapas, Mexico.
In the remote village of Frontera Corozal in Chiapas, Mexico, Negrón made a crossroads with the help of local participants; complete with pedestrian crosswalks, gardens and bike paths. The conception of the project was based in the village’s history: despite having their roads and crosswalks traced over 30 years ago, the government never sealed them with asphalt, which led to their decay. Negrón proposed to modernize these roads by hiring local labor and purchasing material from the village; in this manner the funds for the project would stay in the town and support the local economy as well.
